Diaz Launches "Third Campaign" Demands Next President for a National Metro-Urban Agenda
August 11, 2008
Conference President Miami Mayor Manny A. Diaz launched his “Third Campaign” as he addressed the nation from the podium of the National Press Club August 4, sending the message that America’s problems demand America’s investments. Diaz announced to the nation that he is embarking on a five-city tour, focusing on five priorities, environment, crime, poverty, arts and infrastructure. He bases these areas of priorities on the well-accepted Mayors’10-Point Plan, adopted by the nation’s mayors last year and used during the presidential primary season.
Diaz is demanding that the next President of the United States, after he takes the oath, will give to the American people a bold and 21st Century national metro-urban agenda during his first 100 days in office.
Diaz says that the nation’s mayors and American people will support the new President as he implements the new metro-urban agenda through Congressional proposals, as well as executive orders. As President of the Conference of Mayors, since taking the gavel in Miami in June, Diaz continues to say that Washington is asleep. At the same time, Diaz points out that mayors never sleep. They work 24/7 to strengthen their metro economies and meet the needs of the 85 percent of the American people who live in metro areas.
Diaz proclaims that the next president should be “Mayor of the United States.”
