Long-time Conference of Mayors staff member Kevin McCarty has been named Assistant Executive Director for Transportation and Communications.
For the last four years, McCarty served as Managing Director of The U.S. Conference of Mayors Climate Protection Center, and led efforts to secure over 1,000 signatories for The U.S. Conference of Mayors Climate Protection Agreement, as well as help implement the Energy Efficiency and Conservation Block Grant.
McCarty handled transportation and communications issues for the Conference of Mayors from 1993-2001.
In commenting on his appointment, Conference CEO and Executive Director Tom Cochran said, “We are most fortunate to have someone of Kevin’s experience and dedication to fight for a fair and balanced transportation bill for all of our mayors - with cities of large, medium and small populations - that have the common problem of traffic. And we must continue to protect our ability to manage communications rights-of-ways and fend off federal preemptions.”
McCarty replaces Ron Thaniel, who has been named Executive Director of the National Association of City Transportation Officials (NACTO).
