Registration is now open for the Municipal Waste Management Association (MWMA) 2011 Fall Summit, which will take place October 24-26 in Houston. The Fall Summit brings together public sector leaders in the solid waste, recycling, and environmental fields with private sector executives, to learn about trends and emerging technologies in operational efficiency, recycling, waste-to-energy, and other issues.

“The MWMA Fall Summit is probably one of the most important meetings I attend all year,” says MWMA Executive Committee member San Diego Environmental Services Director Chris Gonaver. “I get to interact with my peers – the folks who make decisions about solid waste in cities across the country. I get to hear about best practices in other places, and borrow great ideas from other communities.”

Hot topics on the 2011 Fall Summit agenda include developing “zero waste” strategies for cities and the private sector; using “Reverse 911” to improve customer communications and relations; and best practices in construction and demolition debris recycling programs.

“When I first accepted this position, I’d had many years of business experience but I was brand new to the solid waste field,” said MWMA First Vice President Tampa Department of Solid Waste & Environmental Program Management Director Tonja Brickhouse. “Meeting and networking with my peers through the MWMA Fall Summit has been one of the most valuable learning tools I’ve had at my disposal. When it comes to industry conferences, for my money, the MWMA Fall Summit is one of those can’t miss events – more than worth the price of admission.”

The MWMA 2011 Fall Summit is geared to municipal officials in the solid waste, recycling and environmental sectors, but is open mayors and other city/county officials as well. For a limited time, public sector (municipal) officials can register for only $99 – more than 2/3 off the regular registration fee.
