By Tom McClimon
July 28, 2008
A dozen mayors’ executive assistants from around the county gathered at New York University for their annual meeting July 10-11. The meeting was held at the Robert F. Wagner School of Public Service, the second time the gathering has been held at the university.
Moderated by Conference of Mayors CEO and Executive Director Tom Cochran, the sessions focused on a number of key policy issues. Rogan Kersh, Associate Dean for Academic Affairs, gave the group an overview of policy issues involved in fighting obesity both at the national and local levels. Other sessions included the energy block grant legislation; ways cities are dealing with high-energy costs; using the internet to communicate; and what the Conference of Mayors and mayors will be doing in the 2008 presidential election.
