Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton has named Conference of Mayors Past President Trenton (NJ) Mayor Douglas H. Palmer to serve as a member of the Advisory Committee on International Economic Policy (ACIEP).

According to its charter, the committee serves the U.S. government in a solely advisory capacity concerning major issues and problems in international economic policy.

Members represent a variety of those with an interest in international economic policy, including representatives of American business, labor unions, public interest groups, trade and professional associations, legal and business consultants on economics and trade aspects of foreign affairs, and academics in the field of international economic policy.

Palmer attended the committee meeting on July 20, which focused on the outlook for U.S.-India economic relations. The meeting was especially timely in that the Secretary of State was in India, where she and top leaders of that nation were discussing strategic cooperation on anti-terrorism and defense, the environment and climate change, the U.S.-India civil nuclear agreement, education and development, and economic trade and agriculture.

Palmer said, “I am pleased and appreciative that Secretary Clinton has asked me to serve on this committee on international economic policy. I believe I can contribute views and ideas from the local government perspective and look forward to doing that in the months ahead.”
