Conference Recognizes American War Mothers Organization

July 26, 2004

The Conference of Mayors adopted a special resolution sponsored by Hempstead Mayor James A. Garner at the Boston meeting that recognizes the contributions of the American War Mothers organization. The United States Congress chartered the American War Mothers as a national organization in February 1925.

The American War Mothers is a non-political, non-sectarian, non-partisan, and non-profit organization limited to women who are citizens of the United States, whose sons and daughters served in the Armed Forces of the U.S. or its Allies in World War I, World War II, and Korean and Vietnam Conflicts, or any subsequent wars or conflicts, and were honorably discharged,

The resolved clause of the resolution states, "Now, therefore, be it resolved that The U.S. Conference of Mayors expresses its support for the organization entitled American War Mothers for the sacrifice of mothers whose children have defended their country in time of war and conflict and for the goals of the organization, which promote patriotism, commitment to the community and nation, support of the armed forces of the United States, and the promotion of friendship and understanding in the world."
