Dearborn Mayor Hosts HUD Secretary Jackson
July 25, 2005
Housing and Urban Development (HUD) Secretary Alphonso Jackson paid a visit to Dearborn (MI) Mayor Michael A. Guido July 7, praising the city’s commitment to affordable, quality housing for senior citizens.
Guido is Vice President of The United States Conference of Mayors.
Jackson met with some of the residents of Sisson Manor, a federally subsidized public housing building for senior citizens in Dearborn. He, Mayor Guido and Congressman John D. Dingell, who represents Dearborn, then addressed a crowd of senior citizens gathered under an open tent on the Sisson Manor lawn.
During his remarks, Jackson talked about how he views his work with seniors as personal, since he knows he’s not far from where they sit. He also made a point of saying that Dearborn’s senior housing program should be held up as an example for other communities to follow.
Guido thanked the Secretary for visiting Dearborn, and reiterated their shared commitment to ensuring that senior citizens always have access to quality housing at a reasonable cost.
“Dearborn’s seniors want to stay in the town where they’ve lived and raised their families,” said Guido. “They should never have to leave because of the financial pressure that can come with a fixed income. Every senior deserves housing that is affordable, clean and safe, and with the kinds of amenities that will enhance the quality of life of the golden years.”
