Villaraigosa appeared July 3 as a featured guest on Sunday morning’s “Face the Nation” with Bob Schieffer. Villaraigosa discussed how states and cities are dealing with budget shortfalls and how Washington can learn from local leaders, who have balanced their budgets and managed their cities despite difficult economic times. Discusses Education, State of 21st Century American City at Aspen Institute Ideas Festival

Earlier this month, Conference of Mayors President Los Angeles Mayor Antonio R. Villaraigosa joined a handful of prominent national leaders at the 2011 Aspen Institute›s Ideas Festival, an annual gathering of the best minds in the country coming from the worlds of politics, academia, media and the arts. Villaraigosa spoke to discuss the state of the 21st Century American City and education. Other notable participants included Newark (NJ) Mayor Cory Booker, former President Bill Clinton, architect Frank Gehry, Arianna Huffington, former U.S. Treasury Secretary Henry Paulson, and Pulitzer Prize winning New York Times columnist and author Thomas Friedman.

Clinton Global Initiative, Chicago

Villaraigosa served on a panel titled "American Success Stories" during a Clinton Climate Initiative meeting in Chicago on June 30 to discuss how to spur job growth by developing tailored, creative responses to unique local challenges. The panelists discussed ways to use technology and create employment opportunities in growth sectors such as the service industry or green buildings, and how to find unique financing options to support local entrepreneurs. Some of the notable panelists who joined Villaraigosa included Colorado Governor John Hickenlooper, Indiana Governor Mitchell E. Daniels Jr., and Zappos.com Inc. CEO Tony Hsieh.
