Three Mayors Leaving Office Recognized for Leadership at Annual Meeting

Three mayors; Bill Purcell of Nashville, John Street of Philadelphia and Rosemarie Ives of Redmond (WA) are leaving office at the end of 2007.

Conference President Trenton Mayor Douglas H. Palmer recognized the mayors during the 75th Annual Meeting.

Purcell was first elected mayor in 1999 and is a Trustee of the Conference. After two terms as mayor of Music City, Purcell earned Governing Magazine’s Public Official of the Year honor in 2006.

Street is an Advisory Board member of the Conference. He serves as chair of the Faith-Based Task Force.

Ives, also an Advisory Board member, has served as mayor of Redmond since 1992. She has been chair of Conference’s Sustainable Development Task Force since 2004.
