Akron Mayor Donald L. Plusquellic was elected President of The United States Conference of Mayors in the business session of the 72nd Annual Meeting on June 28 in Boston. The membership also elected Long Beach Mayor Beverly O'Neill as Vice President and Dearborn Mayor Michael A. Guido as Chair of the Advisory Board for 2004-05.

The eleven member nominating committee, which was appointed by Conference President Hempstead (NY) Mayor James A. Garner and chaired by DeKalb Mayor Greg Sparrow, recommended Plusquellic, O'Neill and Guido for the Conference's top leadership positions when it met June 26 during the Annual Meeting.

In addition to selecting the three top officers, the Conference membership also filled vacancies on the organization's Trustee and Advisory Board. Named to Trustee was Manual A. Diaz of Miami. New Advisory Board members are Providence Mayor David N. Cicilline; Rockford (IL) Mayor Douglas P. Scott; and Sugar Land (TX) Mayor David G. Wallace.

The top three officers serve one-year terms; while the thirteen Trustees and twenty-seven Advisory Board members serve as long as they remain in city hall.
