During the June 26 City Livability Luncheon of the 72nd Meeting of the United States Conference of Mayors, Fremont Mayor Gus Morrison was honored for over 20 years of exemplary service to the city of Fremont.

After three terms of service, Morrison will be ending his service as mayor of Fremont. Morrison served as mayor from 1985 until 1989, then returned to the Fremont City Council in 1991 and was again elected mayor in 1994 and reelected in 1996 and 2000.

In presenting Morrison with his farewell plaque, Conference President Hempstead (NY) Mayor James A. Garner said, "Gus embodies the essence of public service, and the Conference has benefited from his dedication and commitment. We honor him today not only for service to his city but to the Conference of Mayors as well."

Morrison was elected to the Conference's Advisory Board in 2000, and was appointed to serve as Chair of the Energy Policy Standing Committee in 2002.
