San Leandro Mayor Shelia Young to Serve as New Chair of Women Mayors' Caucus

The Women Mayors' convened their semi-annual caucus session on Friday, June 14 during a working breakfast meeting. Host Mayor Susan J.M. Bauman opened the meeting by welcoming her female counterparts to her city with brief remarks for the 70th Annual Conference of Mayors Annual Meeting. As far as we know, Mayor Bauman serves as the second female to serve as host Mayor of a Conference of Mayors Annual Meeting. San Diego Mayor Maureen O'Connor of hosted the 60th Annual Meeting in 1992.
As usual, the Women Mayors' discussed a myriad of important issues during the meeting, and Conference Executive Director J. Thomas Cochran addressed the group with brief customary remarks towards the end of the session which focused on funding for Homeland Security. Unfortunately, the keynote speaker, Representative Tammy Baldwin (WI) was unable to join the Women Mayors' due to a late vote taken up in Congress Thursday evening prior to the Friday morning function. However, the Women Mayors will continue to pursue establishment of a meaningful and productive rapport and dialogue with women serving in the 107th Congress during both the January and June Annual Meetings.
