On June 17 at the 70th Annual Meeting in Madison, the Conference conducted a free drawing to award leases to two cities for the "Mayor of Truckville" Dodge Ram truck. All cities represented by registered mayors were eligible to win the leases. Oklahoma City Mayor Kirk Humphreys and Atlanta Mayor Shirley Franklin accepted leases on behalf of their cities. The Conference also received a Dodge Ram truck lease for use at its organization's headquarters.
Earlier in the meeting, Trenton Mayor Doug Palmer, Chair of the Conference's Membership Committee, announced the drawing and turned to Fred Hoffman, Director of State Relations for the DaimlerChrysler Corporation, who presented the leases to the Conference and introduced Dodge's newest "elected official", the Mayor of Truckville. The Mayor of Truckville is the centerpiece of DaimlerChrysler's latest Dodge Ram advertising campaign.
DaimlerChrysler, a long time member of the Mayors Business Council and a Madison Meeting sponsor, proclaimed all mayors as "Mayors of Truckville", explaining that the campaign was inspired by the critical role mayors play in their cities and the desire to position the Dodge truck as bold and innovative. On display at the meeting were two Dodge trucks customized to give new meaning to police and fire department transportation needs.
