Dearborn Mayor Michael A. Guido was elected President of The United States Conference of Mayors at the business session of the 74th Annual Meeting on June 5 in Las Vegas. The membership also elected Trenton (NJ) Mayor Douglas H. Palmer as Vice President and Miami (FL) Mayor Manuel A. Diaz as Chair of the Advisory Board for 2006-07.

The nine member nominating committee, which was appointed by Conference President Long Beach (CA) Mayor Beverly O’Neill and chaired by Richmond (CA) Mayor Irma L. Anderson, recommended Guido, Palmer and Diaz for the Conference’s top leadership positions when it met during the Annual Meeting.

In addition to selecting the top three officers, the Conference membership also filled vacancies on the organization’s Trustee and Advisory Board. Named to Trustees were Albuquerque (NM) Mayor Martin J. Chavez, Elizabeth (NJ) Mayor J. Christian Bollwage, Burnsville (MN) Mayor Elizabeth B. Kautz and Detroit Mayor Kwame M. Kilpatrick. New Advisory Board members are as follows: Columbus Mayor Michael B. Coleman; Oklahoma City Mayor Mick Cornett; Sacramento Mayor Heather Fargo; Honolulu Mayor Mufi Hannemann; Denver Mayor John W. Hickenlooper; Southfield (MI) Mayor Brenda L. Lawrence; Pembroke Pines (FL) Mayor Frank C. Ortis; Los Angeles Mayor Antonio R. Villaraigosa; and Austin Mayor Will Wynn.

The top three officers serve one-year terms; while the thirteen Trustees and 27 Advisory Board members serve as long as they remain in city hall.
