Finalists Announced for 2012 Cans for Cash City Recycling Challenge

The finalists for the 2012 Cans for CashTM City Recycling Challenge were announced this week by The U.S. Conference of Mayors and Novelis Inc., the global leader in rolled aluminum products and aluminum can recycling. The winners will be officially announced in Orlando on June 13 at 2:30pm EDT, during the Environment Standing Committee session of the 80th Annual Meeting of The U.S. Conference of Mayors.
Awards will be presented in two categories: "Most Cans Collected" and "Most Innovative Ideas."
The "Most Cans Collected" category recognizes the cities that collect the most aluminum beverage cans per capita during the Challenge period. In this category the three finalists are (in alphabetical order by city name):
Milwaukee (WI) Mayor Tom Barrett
Richmond (IN) Mayor Sally Hutton
University City (MO) Mayor Shelley Welsch
The "Most Innovative Ideas" category rewards the cities that employ the most creative strategies to promote aluminum beverage can recycling. The finalists in this category are (again in alphabetical order):
Irvine (CA) Mayor Sukhee Kang
Newport News (VA) Mayor McKinley Price
Pembroke Pines (FL) Mayor Frank C. Ortis
