522 Mayors Sign Climate Protection Agreement
June 4, 2007
Last month, Tulsa (OK) Mayor Kathy Taylor became the 500th mayor to sign the U.S. Mayors Climate Protection Agreement. Within several days, another 22 mayors had signed the agreement, bringing the total number of signatories to 522.
In his recent comments during the C40 Large Cities Climate Summit in New York City, Conference President Trenton Mayor Douglas H. Palmer said, “We won’t cease at 500. The U.S. Conference of Mayors will meet in Los Angeles for our 75th Anniversary Meeting, and we won’t stop until we have every mayor signed up.”
The chart above depicts the broad distribution of mayors who have joined as signatories to the Agreement, representing all 50 states and a total population of more than 65 million citizens.
