Rome Mayor Leaves Office for County Executive Position

Rome (NY) Mayor Joseph A. Griffo was appointed on May 28 to an interim county executive position by the Oneida County Legislature. The position became available when Ralph J. Eannace Jr. announced that he would step down to accept an Utica City Court judge appointment. Griffo has served three terms as mayor of Rome since 1991, a city of 44,000 in Upstate New York.

As an active member of the U.S. Conference of Mayors, Griffo has served in a variety of capacities including his membership on the Advisory Board and the Homeland Security Task Force. Griffo is also co-chair of the Amtrak Mayor's Council.

Griffo is also a Past President of the New York State Conference of Mayors.
