Oklahoma City Mayor Mick Cornett was interviewed May 16 by T.J. Holmes from CNN Morning News. The mayor talked about how Oklahoma City’s financial stability is holding up pretty well during the country’s economic shake-up.
When asked how he is able to maintain a reasonable economy in his city, Cornett said, “We invested in quality of life. Housing prices are very low, our air quality is very high. We have an abundance of fresh water, and we have virtually no traffic congestion. Our entrepreneurs and our job creators are able to expand jobs, because we’re recruiting a number of highly talented, skilled, and educated young people. And if you’re attracting young people the job creators are probably going to have some success.”
The mayor also added that banks in his city are all in really good shape and lending is still underway. Cornett said that in order to attract interest in his city, he focused on increasing jobs. He also mentioned that his model can be created pretty much in any city in the country. “We’ve created a city where people want to be.”
