Newton (MA) Mayor Setti Warren has announced he his running in the Democratic primary to challenge U.S. Senator Scott Brown of Massachusetts.
Warren was elected mayor in November 2009. He chairs the Community Development and Housing Committee of The U.S. Conference of Mayors, and helped lead the recent campaign to save the Community Development Block Grant.
Warren worked in the Clinton administration from 1996 through 2000. In 2000, he became New England director of the Federal Emergency Management Agency. Warren, who enlisted in the Navy Reserve after the September 11 terrorist attacks, also served in Iraq in 2008 as an intelligence specialist.
To date, three other candidates have declared for the Senate Democratic primary.
