The next federal authorization of the surface transportation law presents an opportunity to realize the transportation efficiencies, environmental advantages, and economic development and land use opportunities that high'speed and intercity rail offer to cities and their metropolitan areas.

Mayors, in discussions with your with congressional delegation and the Obama Administration, urge that the next federal surface transportation bill include a well-funded high-speed and intercity rail program with dedicated revenue for planning and development of corridors.
