Palatine, IL Mayor Rita L. Mullins was defeated in her re-election attempt on April 7. The five-term mayor and USCM Trustee will be succeeded by Jim Schwantz, a political rookie who prevailed over Mullins and two other candidates.The 39-year-old Schwantz, who played pro football for the Chicago Bears, collected about 42 percent of the vote to defeat Mullins.

“It’s the climate of change and so younger means better, maybe,” said Mullins following the election.

Mr. Schwantz will be sworn-in on the evening of May 4.
