April 22 marks the celebration of the annual event, Take a Child to Work Day. Over 60 mayors, from cities across the United States, have already signed up to participate in a new joint financial literacy initiative of The United States Conference of Mayors and Nationwide Retirement Solutions for April 22. The classic fairy tale The Three Little Pigs has been adapted into a story of financial education for this program that affords mayors the opportunity to interact with children in their communities. This modern story, The Three Little Pigs A Financial Fairy Tale, highlights the importance of financial literacy for children. Nationwide is a leader in the industry for the financial education of all ages.
As announced during the January 2004 Winter Meeting, and again at February's Winter Leadership Meeting, the program involves mayors reading The Three Little Pigs A Financial Fairy Tale to children in their communities. Mayors may choose to go into a local school to read the story, or might offer this fairy tale to children who will spend Take a Child to Work day in city hall.
The program's aim is to excite and motivate children across the nation to learn about fiscal responsibility and the importance of balance in spending, sharing, and saving. Mayors who participate in this exciting new program with the children in their community will receive a copy of The Three Little Pigs A Financial Fairy Tale, as well as complimentary materials which include a work book of exercises and a piggy bank.
Mayors are encouraged to contact Maggie Kwasny, with Nationwide Retirement Solutions, to ask for more information on this special initiative or to find out how their city can reach out to its youth in this message of financial education.
