The National Mayors Summit on City Design Is Three Weeks Away...
April 11, 2011
The summit is a working meeting where mayors and design experts will uncover the challenges currently facing cities and design solutions. This information will be delivered in-person to a high-level panel of federal officials, including HUD Secretary Shaun Donovan and NEA Chairman Rocco Landesman. Much of the Summit's work will take place in three forums.
Thursday Afternoon Forums
The National Mayors Summit on City Design will be the most significant gathering of mayors and design leaders on the topic of city design in the history of our country. The three Summit Forums are the true working sessions in the program, and are where we'll be able to capture the ideas of the Summit delegates, who truly include the best and brightest leaders in city design, planning and development from the public, private and non-profit sectors.
During the Summit, three forums will be held on Thursday afternoon, April 28:
- Design - Transportation,
- Design - Development, and
- Design - 21st Century Challenges.
Throughout these working sessions, Summit delegates will uncover the opportunities, obstacles and resource challenges currently facing cities and the potential solutions that design has to offer in addressing them. The Summit will generate ideas on ways of working collaboratively to address city challenges and foster complete and holistic communities throughout the nation.
We will begin each forum with a series of thought provoking presentations from some of the nation's foremost experts in design, development, sustainability, transportation and related issues. These presentations will serve as sparks for the roundtable discussions. Each table will have an expert discussion leader to guide conversation and capture the content discussed at each table. These leaders will all be provided with the same set of questions, so that conversations lead to recommendations that can be synthesized and presented on Friday morning.
Following the Summit, we will create a series of documents and tools that will Inform policy and design decisions at both Federal and Local levels.
