Displaced Voter Information for Hurricane Katrina Victims
New Orleans Mayoral Election – April 22

April 10, 2006


According to the Louisiana Secretary of State’s website (www.sos.louisiana.gov/elections), all registered voters of Orleans Parish in Louisiana who have been displaced by Hurricanes Katrina and Rita, but who wish to vote via absentee ballot in the upcoming mayoral primary April 22 should note the following:

  • Registered voters can vote via absentee ballot via mail by filling out an Absentee Ballot

    (If this is your first time voting, a Displaced Voter Affidavit MUST accompany your Absentee Ballot)

  • Period to request a Mail Ballot/Affidavit: February 21, 2006 to April 18, 2006

    Absentee Ballots/Affidavits* should be requested from:

    *On the request form, be sure to include your current mailing address (not to be confused with your Orleans Parish address to certify your voter registration) where you want the state to send your absentee ballot. You can also receive a ballot via fax upon request!

  • As an alternative to requests for forms via mail, simply download from the internet at:

  • Deadline for an absentee Ballot/Affidavit to be RETURNED – not postmarked – to the N.O. Registrar’s Office: April 21, 2006 at 4:30 p.m.

    Absentee Ballots WITH Affidavits should be returned via mail* to:

    *Protect yourself by sending your ballot via certified mail so you have proof of your vote – OR – FAX your ballot to the Registrar’s office at 504-658-8315. Ward 15 only, please mail to 225 Morgan St., NOLA.
