Carmel (IN) Mayor James Brainard attended the opening of Michael Feinstein’s new Broadway play, “All About Me,” on March 18. Along with Brainard, and a number of arts patrons from Carmel at the opening night performance at the Henry Miller Theatre in New York City, were such artists as Lisa Minnelli, Joel Grey, Barbara Light, and Barbara Walters. The Broadway musical features Feinstein and Dame Edna Everage. Feinstein was honored by the Conference of Mayors at its recent Winter Meeting. He is the artistic director of the new Carmel Performing Arts Center.
Former Albuquerque Mayor and Conference of Mayors Trustee Martin J. Chávez was recently named Executive Director of ICLEI-Local Governments for Sustainability USA. ICLEI, with more than 1,053 members in 68 countries, is an international association of local governments and national and regional local government organizations that have made a commitment to sustainable development. Chávez, who will be based in Washington (DC), will oversee ICLEI USA, which accounts for more than half of the organization’s global membership. As mayor for sixteen years, he was a leader on energy, climate and sustainability issues, winning numerous awards for Albuquerque, including the Conference of Mayors 1st Annual Mayor Climate Protection Award in 2007.
