March 28, 2005
Senator Ted Kennedy (MA) authored an amendment to the Senate Budget Resolution for FY 2006 that restores much of the education funding eliminated by the President's FY 2006 budget proposal. The Senator received support from a number of others including former St. Paul (MN) mayor, Senator Norm Coleman.
The amendment includes increasing funding for Pell grants to a maximum award of $4,500 from $4.150; and restoring funding to such zeroed out programs as Talent Search, Upward Bound, Gear Up and the Vocational and Technical Education state grants.
