Miami Mayor Diaz Pushes National Cities Green Agenda in Florida

March 19, 2007

Conference Vice President Miami Mayor Manny Diaz delivered the keynote address promoting the Conference’s Energy and Environment Agenda and 2007 10-Point Plan during the Vision Broward Leadership Forum on the Environment in South Florida February 8.

Florida mayors, who have committed to the U.S. Conference of Mayors Climate Protection Agreement spearheaded by Seattle Mayor Greg Nickels, were honored during the forum and received the Protector of the Climate Awards from the Broward County Audubon Society. The Audubon Society is spearheading nationwide and regional campaigns to recruit mayos to sign on in support of the Mayors Climate Change Agreement to recruit local mayors to sign the agreement.

An original signatory of the U.S. Mayors Climate Change Agreement and co-sponsor of the Mayors 2030 Building Challenge, Diaz has held monthly forums in Miami to educate and increase awareness in the developer and the construction communities of the value and imperative of building green. Targeted attendees have included AIA-certified architects, members of the Florida Engineers Association, local developers and industry professionals.
