About the Mayor
February 14, 2011
Schenectady Mayor Brian Stratton has been recommended to be Director of the New York State Canal Corporation by Governor Andrew Cuomo on February 9. In that role, Stratton would oversee New York’s system of inland waterways and bicycle paths. He will be required to step down as mayor following seven years in office.
“I hope that what I can do to help serve the governor is going to help him support a statewide platform that will be good for our city, that will be good for all of the state,” Stratton said. His new job requires approval by the Thruway Authority, which manages the Canal Corporation. Stratton said that if his appointment is approved, he hopes to start sometime next month.
