The Fremont (CA) City Council voted 4-0 on January 30 to appoint Gus Morrison to be interim mayor, and he will serve through November 2012. Morrison succeeds the late Bob Wasserman, who died December 29, 2011 with 11 months left in his mayoral term.

After joining the city council in 1978, Morrison was elected mayor in 1985. He then served on the council a second time from 1991 to 1994. He was elected mayor again in 1994 and served until 2004, leaving office because of term limits. Morrison was an Advisory Board Member of The U.S. Conference of Mayors, and Chair of the Energy Standing Committee.
