Indianapolis Mayor Peterson Extends Greetings as New President of National League of Cities
February 12, 2007
Indianapolis Mayor Bart Peterson, new President of The National League of Cities (NLC), extended greetings to mayors at the Thursday Plenary Session, January 25.
Looking forward to a year of close cooperation with The Conference of Mayors, Peterson said that both the NLC and the Conference have “one common mission: to make lives better of the people in America’s cities.”
“We will work together battling crime, forging a new partnership with Congress, and together we have a chance to work with The Conference’s 10-Point Plan,” Peterson said.
He outlined other opportunities of cooperation, which included Community Development Block Grants, housing, energy independence, security, and new building standards.
The NLC, he stated, also has a goal of telecommunication reform, where cities are not harmed in any new legislation.
