February 12, 2007
Los Angeles Mayor Antonio R. Villaraigosa will host The 75th Annual Conference of Mayors Meeting June 22-26.
Speaking at the January 25 Plenary Session, Villaraigosa said he was excited to host the annual event and promised the mayors they will have a spectacular time, even though it was going to be hard to beat Las Vegas Mayor Oscar Goodman’s event last June when he hosted the Annual Meeting.
“You are all going to get a chance to see the vibrant parts of Los Angeles and to participate in special events such as tours of Hollywood and The Getty Museum, which just completed a $100-million dollar renovation, and the Disney Concert Hall.”
Mayors were encouraged to visit the city’s Center of Homeland Security and Emergency Response while in Los Angeles.
Villaraigosa also said mayors would experience the cultural diversity of the city, noting that 46 percent of the residents of the city’s 3.7 million people were foreign born.
He concluded by saying he looked forward to welcoming those present to his city in June.
