The Integrated Water Resources Hierarchy

February 11, 2008

The Integrated Water Resources Hierarchy involves:

  • Reduce per capita consumption through a variety of water conservation and efficiency measures

  • Reuse and Recycle water that can be used where the water quality does not have to be of drinking water standards

  • Reclaim brackish water for consumptive uses

  • Restore water resources by preserving or introducing the natural features of the watershed that capture, clean, and store runoff, to protect water supplies and mitigate flooding and non-point source runoff

  • Recharge groundwater through low impact development and other measures such as constructed/enhanced wetlands that promote infiltration in watersheds

  •
