Democratic Mayors Reelect Leaders and Discuss Upcoming Events

The National Conference of Democratic Mayors met January 22 during the U.S. Conference of Mayors Winter Meeting and reelected the existing slate of officers to another term. Trenton Mayor Douglas H. Palmer thanked members for electing him to another term and for the confidence they have expressed in him as president. Also reelected were Cleveland Mayor Jane Campbell, vice president for policy; Albuquerque Mayor Martin J. Chavez, vice president for finance; Seattle Mayor Greg Nickels, vice president for communications; Atlanta Mayor Shirley Franklin, secretary; and San Bernardino Mayor Judith Valles, treasurer.

Democratic National Committee Chairman Terry McAuliffe spoke to democratic mayors about the DNC's plans for the presidential and congressional elections this year. Boston Mayor Thomas M. Menino also provided a progress report on his city's plan for hosting the National Democratic Convention this summer.
