New Webcast Service Launched

February 3, 2003

Declaring that the Conference of Mayors "remains on the cutting-edge," Conference Executive Director J. Thomas Cochran launched the start-up of the Conference webcast service, U.S. MayorVision.

By launching U.S. MayorVision, "Cochran said the Conference will have the ability to bring our meetings and national experts directly to mayors and their staffs in city halls." He said that "It will also allow mayors to share Best Practices among themselves."

U.S. MayorVision is a webcast service that allows people accessing the Conference's website, usmayor.org, to see in video format either "live" or taped meetings and events. Some of the planned webcasts will be interactive, in that mayors and their staffs will be able to ask questions directly to the people participating in the webcasts. For example, a webcast on smallpox inoculations with leading national experts, mayors will be able to question the experts using the internet as their communication's medium. The experts would respond "on'the-air" to the Mayors' questions.

Information on planned webcasts and their availability will be sent to the mayors shortly. In the meantime, for additional information, contact Tom McClimon on the Conference staff at 202-861-6729.
