Projection Presentation Technology, a 25-year-old Washington D.C.-based provider of audio and visual equipment, grew to $42 million in annual revenue. September 11th wreaked havoc on both the business and its primary industry, the convention industry. As a result, Projections- revenue was slashed in half, with losses exceeding $300,000 a month.
Liquidation Order
At a bank review in mid-October 2001, Mr. Campbell was told that he must liquidate all assets and shut down his business, paying all bank debt by January 1, 2002.
Reaching Out for Help
A colleague recommended Partner America and Mr. Campbell contacted Chairman George Cloutier to request an immediate meeting. The next morning, American Management Services Inc., the private partner in the Partner America program, was on'site to begin the turnaround.
Actions & Results
American Management:
1) Met with the bankers who had mandated liquidation and gained their confidence in American Management's ability to create a rapid turnaround to profitability. As a result, the liquidation order was withdrawn and internal restructuring was orchestrated.
2) Developed an aggressive cash management plan, which included rolling cash forecasts and a strict credit and collection policy, resulting in increased cash flow.
3) Taught ownership to manage by the numbers and hold managers accountable for daily work, resulting in the generation of monthly profits in excess of $150,000 within only 90 days.
4) Created an incentive based compensation plan that rewarded managers for results in excess of the profit plan, resulting in profits turning from losses to an average of $150,000 profit each successive month
The programs developed and implemented by American Management, restored Projections to profitability and today, the company is more successful than ever, with annual profit in excess of $1 million.
