Mayors Help Haiti
February 1, 2010
Within hours after the devastating earthquake hit Haiti January 12, Conference of Mayors CEO and Executive Director Tom Cochran began sending information to mayors about the federal government's efforts to respond to the tragedy and about how best to provide help. Additional information will be sent as it becomes available. All of the information provided is posted at www.usmayors.org.
The White House has provided us the following information:
Cities wanting to help should send email to the State Department at helphaiti@state.gov, and begin the subject line with: "Donation of" followed by a brief description of what is being offered.
Agencies wishing to donate goods in addition to cash should go to the website
www.usaid.gov/haiti/
to match what they have to offer with the specific needs identified by agencies in Haiti.
Civic groups, businesses, and individuals also may submit their offers of donations to the Center for International Disaster Information at http://dex.cidi.org/.
Individuals may donate online to the Clinton Bush Haiti Fund at www.clintonbushhaitifund.org or by texting "QUAKE" to 20222, to donate $10 to the Clinton Bush Haiti Fund, which will be added to cell phone bills.
