The first order of business for the National Conference of Democratic Mayors (NCDM) during its January 20 meeting was to elect a new president, several vice presidents and other officers to fill the vacancies created last November when a number of NCDM leaders were elected to other offices, including the group's president former Providence Mayor David Cicilline, who resigned after being elected to the U.S. House of Representatives. After approving several necessary revisions to its bylaws, NCDM members elected the following Mayors to serve until 2012:
President — Southfield (MI) Mayor Brenda L. Lawrence
First Vice President — Minneapolis Mayor R.T. Rybak
Second Vice President — Tallahassee Mayor John Marks
Third Vice President — Salt Lake Mayor Ralph Becker
Fourth Vice President — Houston Mayor Annise D. Parker
Financial Secretary — Philadelphia Mayor Michael Nutter
Secretary — Baltimore Mayor Stephanie C. Rawlings-Blake
Treasurer — Pembroke Pines (FL) Mayor Frank C. Ortiz
The keynote speaker for the meeting was Democratic National Committee Chairman Tim Kaine, who discussed the organization's plans for the next two years and working closely with Democratic mayors.
