Emergency Resolutions Adopted By Executive Committee of The United States Conference of Mayors

73rd Winter Meeting, Washington, DC

January 18, 2005

 

The Executive Committee of The U.S. Conference of Mayors adopted three emergency resolutions during the Winter Meeting. Following are the titles and resolved clauses from the resolutions. The complete text is available at usmayors.org.

 

Supporting the Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) Program

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that The United States Conference of Mayors supports full funding of the CDBG program.

 

Resolution of Support and Appreciation to the Men and Women of The U.S. Armed Forces and Their Families

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that The United States Conference of Mayors assembled in this 73rd Winter Meeting, January 17-19, 2005 affirms its support of each man and woman who has volunteered to serve in the U.S. Armed Forces. As elected community leaders, we do hereby express our appreciation and gratitude to all those who serve in uniform. We affirm our support of each family member who shares in this sacrifice; and to those who have lost a loved one in this war, we extend our sympathies and condolences.

 

Expression of Deep Concern and Sympathy for the Nations and People Devastated by the Earthquake/Tsunami, on December 26, 2004

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that The U.S. Conference of Mayors expresses the most sincere sympathy and concern for the victims of this catastrophe, for the welfare of those who have survived, and for the well-being of the communities and countries affected, and

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that The U.S. Conference of Mayors commends the efforts of governments, relief agencies, and citizens of the global community for assistance to the victims of the tsunami, and

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that The U.S. Conference of Mayors recognizes the efforts of U.S. mayors for their strong support of aid efforts for tsunami victims and encourages their continuing support of assistance to all those affected as they seek to restore and rebuild their communities and their lives.
