President Announces New Travel, Tourism Initiatives
January 30, 2012
President Barak Obama signed an Executive Order on January 19 providing for new initiatives to significantly increase travel and tourism in the United States. Travel and tourism represents almost three percent of the U.S. GDP and accounts for over 7.5 million jobs. The new initiatives include many adopted by The U.S. Conference of Mayors in its travel and tourism policy resolutions, including reducing the waiting time for visas for China and Brazil, expand and make permanent the Global Entry program, and establish a publicly available website to assist travelers in understanding visa processes into the United States.
