Democratic Mayors Elect Minneapolis Mayor Rybak New President, Discuss 2012 Convention, Elections

Members of the National Conference of Democratic Mayors (NCDM) elected Minneapolis Mayor R.T. Rybak as their new President and Southfield Mayor Brenda Lawrence as 1st Vice President during their January 19 meeting. Lawrence served as president of the group last year but recently stepped down after announcing her bid for the newly drawn 14th Congressional District in Michigan. Others mayors elected to key NCDM positions were Tallahassee Mayor John Marks as 2nd Vice President, Salt Lake City Mayor Ralph Becker as 3rd Vice President, Houston Mayor Annise Parker as 4th Vice President, Stephanie Rawlings'Blake as Secretary, Pembroke Pines Mayor Frank Ortis as Treasurer, and Philadelphia Mayor Michael Nutter as National Finance Chairman.

Charlotte Mayor Anthony Foxx provided an update on plans for the 2012 Democratic National Convention scheduled for September 36 in Charlotte and Abraham Yohannes, Deputy National Political Director of Obama for America, discussed plans for the 2012 presidential and congressional elections.
