The U. S. Conference of Mayors announced a new partnership with Intrado Inc., the nation's leading provider of solutions that manage and deliver mission-critical information for telecommunications providers and public safety organizations. This partnership allows mayors to effectively manage and respond to crises of any magnitude. Intrado designed the IntelliCast Target Notification system, a telephone-based service that provides a fast, accurate way to rapidly disseminate information to citizens in emergencies.

Conference Executive Director J. Thomas Cochran said, "The Conference of Mayors is pleased to join Intrado in forming such an important partnership. Through the Intellicast system, Intrado can help the nation's mayors alert their communities to emergencies such as natural disasters, impending dangers and missing persons. This emergency notification system provides mayors with some of the critical tools needed to safeguard their cities."

Past Conference President and Denver Mayor Wellington E. Webb implemented IntelliCast three years ago. Webb said, "In Denver, we recently used the IntelliCast Target Notification to notify affected citizens of a hazardous gas leak. This improved emergency communications in our city and ultimately saved lives. I am pleased that The U.S. Conference of Mayors is working with Intrado to bring this lifesaving technology to other areas."

Intellicast draws on extracts from the 9-1-1 database, and the service takes advantage of Intrado's 20-year history of working in the field of emergency communications. It is designed to meet the mayors' goals in the areas of emergency preparedness, homeland security, anti-terrorism infrastructure, metropolitan emergency management and emergency communications technology.

Since more than 90 percent of households today have at least one telephone, IntelliCast Target Notification makes an effective addition to traditional solutions, such as sirens, door-to-door efforts, and broadcast alerts. It enables mayors to contact thousands of city residents in minutes.

"This partnership with The U.S. Conference of Mayors is a perfect fit, helping us to broaden the awareness of our lifesaving service while working closely with community leaders to strengthen the nation's public safety infrastructure,"said George Heinrichs, CEO, Intrado.
