Awards to be Presented to Distinguished Arts Leaders

Americans for the Arts and the United States Conference of Mayors will present the following 2004 Public Leadership in the Arts Awards at the Mayors Arts Luncheon on Thursday, January 22.
Arts Legacy Award
Singer Tony Bennett for his work in establishing the Frank Sinatra School of the Arts in Queens which offers not only an intensive specialized arts program in its full academic curriculum, but an emphasis on community service and his plans to replicate the school in other cities across the country.
Legendary Artist Award
Actor and producer Henry Winkler, known to millions for his role as "The Fonz" in the 1970's hit TV series Happy Days, for his work in family and children's television programming, and on behalf of children's causes, including his recent children's book series about a young boy with dyslexia.
National Award for Local Arts Leadership
Baltimore Mayor Martin O-Malley for his investment in Baltimore's cultural heritage and his commitment to ensuring that all children attending Baltimore City Public Schools have access to a high quality arts education.
National Award for State Arts Leadership
Pennsylvania Governor Edward G. Rendell for his commitment to preserve funding for the Pennsylvania Arts Council during tough fiscal times and his investment in cultural tourism initiatives that led to the revitalization of Philadelphia's economic status and image during his term as mayor.
