The December 6, 2003 edition of National Journal contains a special report which provides a "Guide to the Web" organized by key topic areas for 2004.
In the area of Homeland Security/Emergency Response, The U.S. Conference of Mayors Web site, usmayors.org, was the only local government organization selected as a featured site. Other featured sites include the Department of Homeland Security's ready.gov and sites compiled by FEMA and the Red Cross.
The National Journal states, "The U.S. Conference of Mayors has posted its first report on its surveys of spending on homeland security. The web site also features frequent updates on the lobbying efforts of local officials, pushing for more first-responder money."
In commenting on this selection, Conference Executive Director Tom Cochran said, "We are very pleased that National Journal has recognized our work on homeland security.
This honor shows that mayoral leadership is being recognized."
"This also shows the power of our mayoral surveys which are often the best and most timely reflection of how key issues are impacting cities," Cochran added.
The Conference of Mayors will be releasing its second homeland security monitoring report during the upcoming 72nd Winter Meeting in Washington (DC) on January 21-23.
