Villaraigosa Elevated to USCM Vice President
January 11, 2010
In her first official act as USCM President, Burnsville Mayor Elizabeth B. Kautz held an Executive Committee conference call January 5 to discuss the upcoming 78th Winter Meeting in January, the Winter Leadership Meeting in February, and legislative priorities.
During that call, Kautz moved and the Executive Committee voted unanimously to elevate Los Angeles Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa to Vice President of The U.S. Conference of Mayors – a vote authorized under the USCM Constitution. Similar to Kautz, Villaraigosa will serve as Vice President until June of 2011, at which time he will be elevated to President.
The position of Second Vice President, previously held by Villaraigosa, will remain vacant until the 78th Annual Conference of Mayors in June 2010 in Oklahoma City. Prior to Oklahoma City, Kautz will name a Nominating Committee to recommend a mayor for the position of Second Vice President, as well as mayors to fill other vacancies among the Trustees and Advisory Board. The Nominating Committee will meet in Oklahoma City, and its recommendations will then be voted on by the USCM membership during the Business Session on June 14.
Information on the Nominating Committee, vacancies and the election process will be sent to all USCM member mayors prior to the Oklahoma City meeting.
