Mayor Sue Bauman of Madison addressed the Annual Meeting on June 25 and invited all Mayors their, families and staff to a very unique 2002 Annual Conference of Mayors in Madison.
Mayor Bauman noted that most sessions of the meeting will be held in Monona Terracedesigned by Frank Lloyd Wright, a native son , representing his vision of a "dream civic center." but built only a few years ago. Home to the world-class University of Wisconsin-Madison, the city boasts a burgeoning arts district, more than 200 parks, and an ever-expanding range of recreational opportunities. Events already planned for the meeting include:
A reception at the city-owned Olbrich Botanical Gardens along the Lake Monona shore. The site's 14 acres of specialty gardens and indoor conservatory makes Olbrich a popular yearround destination.
the Wisconsin State Capitol
scenic Warner Park, in one of Madison's finest and most spacious parks.
UW Memorial Union Terrace, featuring a lovely view of Lake Mendota at one of Madison's most popular hangouts and
the Kohl Center, also on the UW campus where the exciting basketball team plays, and where activities for USCM will include a 2000-square-foot sculpted putting course, a 26-foot climbing wall, and a variety of virtual games.
