77th Annual Meeting

CONGRATULATING AND THANKING MIAMI MAYOR MANNY DIAZ FOR HIS WORK AS PRESIDENT OF THE UNITED STATES CONFERENCE OF MAYORS

WHEREAS, the Federal Government is seeking appropriate projects for inclusion in the Federal economic stimulus package to provide immediate and near-term job opportunities for projects; and

WHEREAS, the Intercity Florida East Coast (“FEC”) Corridor Project (Jacksonville/Miami) is an appropriate project for inclusion by the State of Florida in the American Recovery and Reinvestment Plan; and

WHEREAS, former work by Amtrak and the Florida Department of Transportation includes plans for the improvements necessary to initiate Amtrak service on the FEC corridor; and

WHEREAS, Miami Mayor Manny Diaz has worked tirelessly as President of the United States Conference of Mayors to have this project included in the American Recovery and Reinvestment Plan.

WHEREAS, the City of Pembroke Pines, Florida on May 6, 2009 adopted Resolution Number 3224, a Resolution of the City Commission of the City of Pembroke Pines, Florida, congratulating Miami Mayor Manny Diaz on his job as President of the United States Conference of Mayors;

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED That the United States Conference of Mayors joins with the City of Pembroke Pines, Florida in congratulating and thanking Miami Mayor Manny Diaz for his work tireless work as President of the United States Conference Of Mayors.
