MISCELLANEOUS
RESOLUTION CONGRATULATING DEEDEE CORRADINI,
MAYOR OF SALT LAKE CITY, ON HER TENURE AS PRESIDENT OF THE UNITED STATES CONFERENCE OF
MAYORS
WHEREAS, Mayor Deedee Corradini will shortly have completed her
second termeight yearsas Mayor of Salt Lake City, and has from the very
beginning of her tenure been a vocal, active and energetic member of The United States
Conference of Mayors; and
WHEREAS, Mayor Corradini has given selflessly of her time and
her talents over the years, and the commitment and vision she evidenced from early on
caused the Conference Leadership and membership to call her to higher office within the
organization;
WHEREAS, As President of The U.S. Conference of Mayors Mayor
Corradini placed the highest priority on the protection and development of our
nations young people, and used her role, office and stature to create the U. S.
Mayors Olympikids Program, not only in order to encourage continued support of physical
fitness programs in all public schools, but to promote a lifetime of healthy behaviors in
our youth; and
WHEREAS, During her tenure Mayor Corradini stewarded the
development of the National Action Plan on School Violence and Kids from 2:00pm to
8:00pm, a document which has served as a blueprint to address violence among our youth
in the White House, on Capitol Hill, and in cities and states across the country; and
WHEREAS, Mayor Corradinis vision for youth development has
served to re-focus the organization on this critical priority, and to create new
opportunities within a variety of disciplines to provide meaningful opportunitiesfor
education, work, and dialoguefor our nations youth; and
WHEREAS, Mayor Corradinis body of work, on this and a
number of other issues, has left the Conference with an undeniable legacy, and has without
a doubt indelibly impacted the national dialogue on urban policy; and
WHEREAS, Mayor Corradini has made many lasting friendships
during her years with the Conference, which will last beyond her tenure as President, or
as Mayor;
NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that The United States Conference
of Mayors thanks Mayor Deedee Corradini for her service to this organization and for her
vision, which has brought into being so many significant new initiatives during this past
year; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the mayors of this nation wish Mayor Corradini the
greatest success, both now and in the future, respectfully and warmly saluting her career
as a local elected official.
