INTERNATIONAL AFFAIRS
PASSAGE OF THE AFRICA GROWTH AND OPPORTUNITY
ACT
WHEREAS, The United States Conference of Mayors passed a resolution in June 1997 at
its San Francisco Annual Meeting supporting passage of the Growth and Opportunity in
Africa Act; and
WHEREAS, this legislation is still pending before the Congress of the United
States,
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that The United States Conference of Mayors
reaffirms its strong support for the passage of this important initiative to aid selected
countries of sub-Saharan Africa to institute a transition path from aid dependency to
economic self-reliance, and calls upon the 106th Congress of the United States,
First Session, to pas this important bill.
