COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT AND HOUSING
THE HISTORIC HOMEOWNERSHIP ASSITANCE ACT
WHEREAS, Americas cities contain a wealth of our nations history,
including housing stock of historic value; and
WHEREAS, preserving that stock must be a national priority and public policy
must provide incentives for preservation of historic housing stock; and
WHEREAS, there are 800,000 owner-occupied, or potentially owner occupied
historic homes that could benefit from federal tax incentives for historic preservation;
and
WHEREAS, the rehabilitation of these homes would spur further investment in
Americas cities,
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that The U.S. Conference of Mayors supports the
proposed Historic Homeownership Tax Credit as proposed by Senators Chafee and Graham, with
the support of the National Trust for Historic Preservation.
