THE HISTORIC HOMEOWNERSHIP ASSITANCE ACT

WHEREAS, America’s cities contain a wealth of our nation’s history, including housing stock of historic value; and

WHEREAS, preserving that stock must be a national priority and public policy must provide incentives for preservation of historic housing stock; and

WHEREAS, there are 800,000 owner-occupied, or potentially owner occupied historic homes that could benefit from federal tax incentives for historic preservation; and

WHEREAS, the rehabilitation of these homes would spur further investment in America’s cities,

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that The U.S. Conference of Mayors supports the proposed Historic Homeownership Tax Credit as proposed by Senators Chafee and Graham, with the support of the National Trust for Historic Preservation.
