INTERNATIONAL AFFAIRS

OPPOSITION TO GLOBAL POLITICAL VIOLENCE

WHEREAS, freedom of expression of one's political views is the backbone of any true political democracy; and

WHEREAS, The U.S. Conference of Mayors supports the concept that all citizens of the world should have the opportunity to reside in a true political democracy; and

WHEREAS, in some parts of the world individuals or groups that hold conflicting political views resort to violence, mayhem or murder as a result of political disagreements; and

WHEREAS, The U.S. Conference of Mayors supports the freedom of political expression and abhors violence being used to stifle democracy and freedom of political expression,

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that The U.S. Conference of Mayors urges individuals, political parties and countries to refrain from political violence as a means of suppressing freedom of expression.
